Professional experience & accomplishments

Dr. Angelica Johnsen is a family physician born in Woodside, Queens and raised in New Jersey. As an undergraduate student at Brown University, she studied Early Life Stress and its role in later susceptibility to disease. After college, she served as an AmeriCorps volunteer with the Rhode Island Department of Corrections and the Center for Health Justice Transformation, focusing on health promotions within the prison and wraparound services for patients leaving prison, with specific interest in substance use disorders, disability, and health policy. She attended the Charles R. Drew/UCLA Medical Education Program in South Central Los Angeles, where her dual training in both highly-resourced and under-resourced environments equipped her with a rigorous dedication to human rights, mental health and patient-provider communication, which naturally developed into a love for family medicine. She looks forward to championing high-quality primary care for publicly-insured and uninsured patients, especially as it pertains to pain management, mental health, LGBTQ+ health, and/or addiction medicine.
