Boogie on the Boulevard goes remote

August 31, 2020

Since 2015, Bronx Health REACH has been a steering committee member of Boogie on the Boulevard, an annual summertime series of community health and wellness events along the Grand Concourse in the Bronx. While in years past the outdoor events drew close to 5,000 participants, Boogie moved online this year in response to concerns about COVID-19.

“Rather than reaching people on the Grand Concourse, making the events virtual allowed us to open them up to all of the Bronx,” said Rachel Ingram, Senior Program Manager at Bronx Health REACH.

The virtual events, which started in July, ran through August and will end the first week of September all centered on health and wellness for participants of all ages. They included activities such as healthy cooking demos, trivia games, workouts, meditation sessions, and Q&A’s offered online. Bronx Health REACH staff hosted a virtual scavenger hunt, cooking demo, fitness class and trivia session in collaboration with two faith-based organizations that are long-time partners of REACH, the Seventh Day Adventist Church and Church of God of Prophecy.

“This year, all sorts of partners came together to organize these events to promote healthy-living and well-being, to show that these activities are available in the Bronx and we can come together and build community around these themes,” said Rachel.
