God’s Health Squad

Eating habits, both good and bad, are formed at a young age. God’s Health Squad aims to teach church youth ages 8-13 how food impacts their health. The program consists of eight 30 minute sessions that can be incorporated into a regular youth group program at the church. Lesson themes include choosing healthy snacks, saying “no” to junk food advertising, and the importance of breakfast. God’s Health Squad also empowers children to bring the message home and to their community, as well as to ask local bodega owners to carry healthier foods.

Bronx Health REACH worked with Jehovah Shammah Family Institute, a member of the Faith-Based Outreach Initiative, to adapt the program for a teen audience. The teen curriculum expands on God’s Health Squad lessons to include topics on self-esteem, healthy eating for teens, and preventing common chronic diseases such as diabetes. Visit this page in the future for additional updates on this program.
