Integrative Family Medicine Fellowship (ARCHIVED)

Based at the Mount Sinai Downtown Residency in Urban Family Medicine

The Institute for Family Health and Mount Sinai Downtown Residency in Urban Family Medicine are pleased to offer the Institute for Family Health Integrative Family Medicine Fellowship, a one-year fellowship. This fellowship offers an opportunity to learn Integrative Family Medicine skills in an underserved setting, while also developing skills in academic medicine. It is accredited by the American Board of Physician Specialties, allowing our graduates to sit for the American Board of Integrative Medicine exam.

The Institute for Family Health is the administering organization for Mount Sinai Downtown Residency in Urban Family Medicine, a leader in Integrative Family Medicine education. This collaboration allows the fellow to practice integrative family medicine in an underserved community health care center at the Institute for Family Health.

The Integrative Family Medicine experience occurs both in the primary care and consultative contexts. Academic opportunities include mentorship in precepting residents, teaching medical students, and collaboration in residency curriculum initiatives. Involvement in research projects is also available. Didactics and case conferences occur weekly, offering an opportunity to collaborate in a collegial, inter-professional setting. There are also 200 hours of online curriculum available, designed in conjunction with the University of Arizona’s Program in Integrative Medicine. The fellow also has the opportunity during the fellowship to learn a specific skill set, such as acupuncture, homeopathy, or hypnosis.

Director of the the fellowship is Dr. Raymond Teets, and Assistant Director is Jaime Schehr, RD, ND. Questions can be directed to Dr. Teets at rteets@institute.org.  Applications for the 2020-2021 academic year are now being accepted.  The due date for applications is December 1, 2019.
