Professional Experience and Accomplishments
Dr. Jayleecia Smith grew up in New York City in a medically undeserved community, and her experience as a patient has shaped her interest in accessible, comprehensive care. Prior to medical school, she worked as a research technician in a neuroscience lab studying cortical regeneration, while volunteering on a community-run research review board in the Bronx (BxCRRB). During medical school, she engaged in research on the experiences of providers caring for patients experiencing homelessness (PEH) in NYC, with the goal of informing patient-centered hospital-based transition of care interventions for PEH. During her last year of medical school she was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. She is interested in full-spectrum family medicine and is passionate about community partnership and advocacy for marginalized communities.
