Immigrant Health Initiative
The Institute for Family Health welcomes everyone at our health centers, regardless of immigration status, insurance status or ability to pay. Since 2015, our Immigrant Health Initiative has worked to connect immigrant New Yorkers from all over the world to high-quality, compassionate health care. With funding from the New York City Council, we’ve provided outreach, health education and linkage to care for thousands of “new New Yorkers.”
Our multi-lingual outreach team participate in events and presentations throughout the year to help immigrant New Yorkers feel comfortable and confident when accessing health services. We provide information and education about primary care and other services; help individuals and families navigate the health care system; and help individuals find out what insurance and benefits they may be eligible for and apply. We work with people on many different journeys, including people with temporary or permanent residency status, asylum-seekers, people who are permanently residing under color of law (PRUCOL), and others.
We are grateful to the many community partners who collaborate with us to make sure everyone can access the health care they need. Our non-profit partners include:
- African Services Committee
- Dominican Women’s Development Center
- Garifuna Community Services
- Grameen America
- LSA Family Health Service

- Violence Intervention Program
Our government partners include:
- Consulates, including the Dominican Consulate, Haitian Consulate and Mexican Consulate
- Various NYC agencies and offices, including the NYC Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs, Parks and Recreation, and the Borough Presidents’ offices.
