The Institute for Family Health Receives HRSA Funding to Enhance Oral Health Care Infrastructure

September 24, 2019

New York, NY (September 24, 2019) – The Institute for Family Health was awarded a $300,000 grant from the federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to enhance its oral health infrastructure and increase access to integrated oral health care. The funds will enable the Institute to make an investment in its oral health information technology systems and upgrade dental radiography equipment at three of its health centers in New York State.

Ten of the Institute’s 31 health centers offer onsite oral health care. With these funds, the Institute will enhance oral health services by adopting a new dental electronic health record system that will fully integrate with primary care and behavioral health. The new system will allow for seamless collaboration between the organization’s care team members and result in better-integrated care for patients. The Institute will also increase onsite access to high-quality dental images at its Harlem, Ellenville and Kingston health centers (all of which offer primary care, mental health and dental services) through the purchase of three new digital x-ray machines.

Dr. Neil Calman, the co-founder, president, and CEO of the Institute for Family Health, said, “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to increase access to integrated oral health care. The Institute provided dental care services to over 26,000 individuals last year, and these enhancements will help us more efficiently meet our patients’ needs and optimize their access to care.”
