NYC Health Commissioner Dr. Mary Bassett Presented Grand Rounds on September 12th

Mary Bassett, MD, MPH, Commissioner of Health at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, presented at the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health’s September 12, 2014 Grand Rounds. Her presentation, entitled “Place Based Solutions to Neighborhood Health Disparities,” described the health department’s plan to reduce health disparities in NYC using a neighborhood-centered approach. Dr. Bassett also presented city data showing clear neighborhood-level health disparities across a variety of common public health indicators.

The event was from 8-9am on Friday, September 12th in Mount Sinai’s Goldwurm Auditorium, and was attended by Institute for Family Health and Mount Sinai staff and residents, as well as community members.

Department of Family Medicine and Community Health Grand Rounds are open to all. Grand Rounds aim to increase knowledge of medical care topics relevant to family medicine, to describe the latest advances in the field of family medicine, and to apply current practice guidelines to the field of family medicine. They occur on the second Friday of every month throughout the academic year and are attended by residents of the Harlem Residency in Family Medicine.
