Institute for Family Health Physicians to be Recognized at NYS Academy of Family Physicians Congress

Two Institute for Family Health physicians, Dr. Mark Josefski and Dr. Linda Prine, will be recognized for their extraordinary accomplishments by the New York State Academy of Family Physicians (NYSAFP) at this weekend’s Annual Congress of Delegates. Dr. Josefski will be appointed the new president of NYSAFP for the 2014-2015 year and Dr. Prine will be honored as the 2014 Family Practice Educator of the Year.

Dr. Mark Josefski is an attending physician at the Institute’s Kingston Family Health Center and has served as family medicine faculty for the Institute’s Mid-Hudson Family Practice Residency Program since 1989, including as residency director for many of those years. He holds a faculty appointment to the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and is joining the faculty of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Dr. Josefski also serves as the vice president of the medical staff and a board member of Health Alliance of the Hudson Valley. As the NYSAFP president, he will represent NYSAFP and its members at local and national events on health care issues and policies. He will also coordinate initiatives on topics including advocacy, education and public health. Dr. Josefski previously served as vice-speaker of the NYSAFP.

Dr. Linda Prine is a nationally recognized leader and educator in reproductive health. She serves as the director of women’s health for the Institute for Family Health, as well as senior faculty for the Institute’s Harlem Residency in Family Medicine and Beth Israel Residency in Urban Family Practice. She is the director of the Institute’s Reproductive Health and Advocacy Fellowship and oversees the Family Medicine Reproductive Health elective at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, in addition to precepting residents and medical students. The Family Practice Educator of the Year Award was established by the NYSAFP in 1991 to recognize professionals who have made outstanding contributions to education for family practice in undergraduate, graduate and continuing education spheres.

“We are so proud that Dr. Josefski and Dr. Prine are being recognized as leaders and innovators in the field of family medicine,” says Dr. Neil Calman, president and CEO of the Institute for Family Health. “It is a great honor to work with them on the frontlines of medicine and education.”

The New York State Academy of Family Physicians is the New York State Chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians. The chapter represents more than 5,000 family physicians, residents and medical students throughout New York State and provides education, advocacy and information to its members.
