When asked about joining the IMPLICIT Leadership Council, Dr. Smith said “I started working with the IMPLICIT Network nine years ago as a resident, and have enjoyed working with so many people dedicated to improving the health of families, as well as teaching the next generation of family physicians. I’m glad to be able to help spread our work even further.”

The IMPLICIT Network is a multi-center collaboration(an FMEC collaborative) is dedicated to enhancing preconception, prenatal, postpartum and interconception care. Conceived in 2003, the Network was developed to educate family medicine residents and practicing physicians about primary and secondary prevention of low birth weight and preterm birth, with the goal of reducing the rates of preventable prematurity.
