Health outreach at Pointe of Praise Family Life Center for American Heart Month

Institute providers and staff collaborated with Pointe of Praise Family Life Center in Kingston to offer heart health resources and free blood pressure readings to parishioners on Sunday, February 19. The Ulster County Department of Health, Health Alliance, and the Ellenville Rural Health Network also participated.
Around 20 parishioners got their blood pressure checked by Institute staff, and an additional 20 stopped by the table to check out the health education resources available. For parishioners whose blood pressure readings were higher, Institute staff will follow up and provide them with options for additional care at Institute sites.
Institute staff present at the event included Nurse Manager Maria Robertson; resident physician Dr. Sana Tanveer; Susanne Callahan, Vice President for Community Engagement; and Amanda Sikoskie, Medical Office Assistant.
“We are delighted to have been invited by the church to provide health promotion,” said Callahan, who helped organize the event. “We are proud to collaborate and build on the trust that the church has within the community, and we look forward to working with them on future health promotion activities.”
