Expecting a baby? Join us online for prenatal education groups

March 31, 2022

Pregnant people and their partners can now join the Institute’s online classes to prepare for the birth of a new child and learn baby care. Once a week for 90 minutes, between 5 and 10 participants gather on Zoom in a supportive group setting to learn about labor and delivery, infant feeding, postpartum and newborn care, and how to make sure you are getting high-quality health care.

Each session is facilitated by a perinatal care navigator who can connect participants to social services and other benefits such as free baby supplies and help with transportation to medical appointments. Special guests include Institute physicians, nutritionists and doulas. There is plenty of time for questions and for participants to share experiences. Partners and other support people are also welcome to join the sessions.

“The goal of the class is to be an empowering space during a major life transition,” said Kaniya Samm, the Institute’s perinatal health coordinator. “We especially focus on helping each participant advocate for themselves and their babies throughout prenatal care, during delivery, and after the baby is born.”

If you are currently pregnant and would like to join one of our online prenatal classes, let your provider know at your next visit.
