Dr. Neil Calman, President and CEO of the Institute, leads a town hall discussion online

August 29, 2023

On August 18, 2023, Dr. Neil Calman, President and CEO of the Institute, led a town hall discussion with Institute staff, providers and leadership to address critical policy issues within health and social services. Over 70 Institute staff members participated in the open-ended Q&A session that focused on how we can position ourselves as an organization to advocate for better care for our patients and communities.

Dr. Calman started the conversation with the following question:

“With so many challenges that our patients face in society at large, in the healthcare system, and even in our offices, we pause to ask ourselves – what more might we do in service to our patients and the communities we serve?  How can we advocate for more resources for the services they need? How can we partner with other community-based organizations to foster changes in legislation to promote our mission of providing health care and social supports to all in need?”

Institute staff contributed questions and remarks about different topics, including Medicaid reimbursement rates and policies, the use of storytelling and social media in advocacy, the commitment to work towards becoming an antiracist organization, and the connection between financial literacy and health.

The Institute is committed to thoughtfully advocating for policy and systems changes to improve our communities’ health.
