Dr. Lauren Hoogewerff receives Mount Sinai’s IME Excellence in Teaching Award

The Institute is pleased to share that Dr. Lauren Hoogewerff has received a Mount Sinai Institute for Medical Education (IME) Excellence in Teaching Award. This award, given every year by Mount Sinai, honors faculty, residents, clinical fellows, students, and staff who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in teaching and have made meaningful contributions to the educational activities across the Mount Sinai Health System. Dr. Hoogewerff was one of 23 awardees recognized for excellence in education.
Dr. Hoogewerff serves as Assistant Director of one of the Institute’s family medicine residencies, the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Program, which is based at our 17th Street location. During her tenure, she has led an effort to strengthen the program through organizing didactics, improving the advising system and refining core competency evaluations. She also runs the Faculty Development curriculum, which has included her own seminars on Precepting Best Practices, Cognitive Bias in Teaching, and Effective Feedback. As an attending physician, Dr. Hoogewerff practices both inpatient and outpatient medicine, and her clinical interests include underserved medicine, preventive medicine and wellness, integrative medicine, women’s health, pediatric and adolescent medicine, group visits, and quality improvement work. Dr. Hoogewerff joined the Institute in 2021.
Dr. Hoogewerff was honored at the 22nd Annual IME Excellence in Teaching Awards on Tuesday, June 4, at the New York Academy of Medicine.
