Dr. Kwame Kitson to receive 2021 United Hospital Fund Tribute to Excellence in Health Care Award

February 26, 2021

The Institute is pleased to share that Kwame Kitson, MD, will be a recipient of the 2021 United Hospital Fund Tribute to Excellence in Health Care Award. The Tribute to Excellence in Health Care Awards program recognizes and nourishes health care innovation and improvement aimed at achieving the highest quality patient care.

Dr. Kitson has provided leadership to the Institute’s robust clinical quality improvement efforts since 1999. During his tenure, he has assured that the Institute has remained on the cutting edge of population health data analysis and reporting, while remaining true to our mission to provide patient-centered health services to all people, regardless of their ability to pay. Since the Institute’s implementation of an electronic health record system in 2002, Dr. Kitson has overseen the organization’s use of electronic decision supports and reporting to demonstrate ongoing improvements in clinical services, patient outcomes and health disparities, focusing on chronic illnesses including hypertension and diabetes.

Throughout, Dr. Kitson has maintained an active patient panel at one of our Bronx health centers. He is also the long-time staff liaison to our Board of Directors’ quality improvement committee, demonstrating ongoing dedication to addressing our patient Board members’ recommendations for improving services — so that the very best population health tools are used to improve health care for all people, including those most underserved.

Dr. Kitson will be honored at a virtual ceremony hosted by United Hospital Fund on Monday, May 3, 2021.
