A little about me

From my start as a drug counselor through to mental health counseling, grant implementation, and now teaching at the Harlem Residency, building relationships has been the key to making change. Those relationships have grown from my desire to find out what matters most to everyone I serve.

Why I love my job

I love my job because of the opportunity to learn from my patients and colleagues. I enjoy working with my colleagues to make a difference we couldn’t have made without teamwork.

Professional experience & accomplishments

Jay’s passion is fostering patient-provider relationships to improve health and mental health outcomes. As the Project Director on the SAMHSA Primary and Behavioral Health Care Integration grant, Jay led the Institute’s initiative to promote the physical health of behavioral health patients. His work in suicide prevention included training primary care providers in Montana, Missouri, Colorado and New York and consulting on an NIH funded online patient simulation. He remains a safeTALK trainer educating staff on suicide awareness. Jay’s additional areas of focus include nicotine dependence, personality disorders, trauma and health equity. As a mental health clinician at IFH’s Family Health Center of Harlem, Jay continues to treat mental illness within diverse populations.
