Continuous Quality Improvement

The Institute’s Quality Improvement Committee oversees regular quality improvement projects at each Institute health center and within each department. To further expand our performance improvement activities, the CQI committee has established several workgroups that focus on specific diseases and clinical issues, including workgroups for HIV care, diabetes, women’s health, obstetrics, and mental health/primary care integration.

Since 2003, the Institute has been completely “paperless,” and all chart notes, clinical data, and demographic information are stored within the electronic health record system. The electronic health record continues to enhance the quality of patient care provided at the Institute’s sites, and allows us to engage in sophisticated and comprehensive quality assurance activities.

Quality improvement initiatives are supported by the Institute’s outreach team, who work with primary care providers and other staff to contact patients in need of services.
