Former Institute HealthCorps Member Featured in Interview

November 04, 2011

The National Association of Community Health Centers recently posted an interview with former Institute Healthcorp member, Amelia Goff. Now the Project Coordinator for the RCHN Community Health Foundation, Amelia spent her year of service working in the Institute’s Maternal Department, as the Prenatal Care Coordinator/Volunteer Doula. Asked about her experience, Amelia shared that the “Community HealthCorps provided a rich environment for an invaluable year of exploration…I learned not only about the clinical aspect of caring for a community of patients…but also the barriers that prevent people from accessing the care they deserve.”

The Institute’s Community HealthCorps program is part of a national AmeriCorps program that promotes health care for the underserved while training future healthcare workers. At the Institute for Family Health, Community HealthCorps members engage in a variety of projects that promote access to health care and health information in medically underserved communities throughout New York City and the Mid-Hudson region. The competitive program is full for the year, but will begin accepting applications for 2012-2013 in the spring of 2012.
