The Institute joins community health centers in celebrating National Health Center Week 2024

August 29, 2024

Every year in August, the Institute joins with 1,400 community health centers across the country in rallying public support for the care we provide for over 31.5 million patients. This year, National Health Center Week took place on August 4-10.

During this week, Institute staff hosted health center tours for local elected officials. In particular, Institute staff emphasized the critical need for Medicaid rate reform for community health centers in New York State. In a report by the Urban Institute last year, researchers found that health centers in New York State are only reimbursed for about 70% of the cost of providing care. We continue to rely on elected officials to ensure appropriate, sustainable investment in our health centers and community health.

We would like to thank our elected officials who took the time to meet with us, visit our health centers and learn about the health needs of our communities. We’d especially like to thank Senator Liz Krueger (District 28), Senator Robert Jackson (District 31), Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal (District 47), Assembly Member Landon Dais (District 77), Assembly Member Karines Reyes (District 87) and Assembly Member Sarahana Shrestha (District 103).

We appreciate our legislators’ support in ensuring New York State invests in primary care!
