NYC Mayor Eric Adams signed two executive orders aimed at improving the quality of food offered by city agencies through better food standards of city agencies and mandate that all promotional materials on food put out by the city feature healthy selections like fresh fruit and vegetables. Bronx Health REACH was one of the many organizations that was quoted in the announcement: “We applaud Mayor Adams signing two executive orders in procuring, preparing, and serving healthy and nutritious food through city agencies,” said Charmaine Ruddock, project director, Bronx Health REACH. “The Bronx experiences some of the greatest food inequities and social injustices in the city and the state, reflected by the borough’s long standing poor health outcomes. Codifying the Good Food Purchasing Program, which expands the city’s food standards commitment is an encouraging step in helping to improve the health of Bronx residents and moving the Bronx from being the unhealthiest county.”
