Dr. Oliver Fein Presents Grand Rounds on January 13th
New York, NY (January 11, 2017) — Oliver Fein, MD, will present the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health’s January Grand Rounds. His presentation, entitled “Health Care Reform? Trump Proposals vs. Single-payer,” will identify the current challenges facing the U.S. healthcare system, assess the proposed reforms that are likely under a Trump administration, describe the principles underlying a single-payer health care reform, compare key features of a New York State single-payer health care financing system to the current system and finally estimate the impact of healthcare reform in New York State on the uninsured and underinsured, health care expenditures and the health care delivery system.
Dr. Oliver Fein is Professor of Clinical Medicine, Professor of Clinical Healthcare Policy and Research and Associate Dean for Affiliations at the Weill Cornell Medical College. As Associate Dean, he is responsible for Weill Cornell’s academic affiliations and its Office of Global Health Education. He is a practicing general internist with experience in health policy and a commitment to access to care for vulnerable populations, health system reform and global health education. He is Co-Director of the David Rogers Health Policy Colloquium, a weekly interdisciplinary health policy forum at Weill Cornell. He is Chair of the NY-Metro Chapter of Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP), former president of national PNHP and past vice president of the American Public Health Association (APHA). He also is a fellow of the American College of Physicians (ACP) and serves on the Health Policy Committee of the Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM). He is on the Editorial Board of the journal Medical Care. In 1993-94, he was a Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellow in the office of U.S. Senate majority leader George Mitchell. Among the awards Dr. Fein has received are: The Elnora Rhodes Service Award from the Society of General Internal Medicine (1991); the Haven Emerson Award from the Public Health Association of New York City (2001); the Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellowship Alumni Lifetime Achievement Award (2008); the David Calkins Award for Health Policy Advocacy from the Society of General Internal Medicine (2013); and the Award for Excellence from the American Public Health Association (2015). He attended the White House Health Care Summit on March 5, 2009 and is an invited speaker on healthcare reform in the United States and internationally.
As part of the Mount Sinai Health System’s virtual campus, videoconferencing will be offered with the Beth Israel Medical Center’s Department of Family Medicine and the Mount Sinai-affiliated Mid-Hudson Family Practice Residency in Kingston, NY.
The event will be held from 8-9am on Friday, January 13th in Mount Sinai’s Hatch Auditorium in the Guggenheim Pavilion (1468 Madison Avenue), 2nd Floor. A light breakfast will be served at 7:30am.
Grand Rounds are open to all and occur on the second Friday of every month, September-June.
