Allan Clear Presents Grand Rounds on December 8th

Allan Clear HeadshotNew York, NY (December 7, 2017) – Allan Clear, will present the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health’s December Grand Rounds. His presentation, titled “NYS DOH AIDS Institute Drug User Health Priorities and Initiatives,” will provide learners with an understanding and overview of the key functions of the Office of Drug User Health, the need for specific services for people who use drugs as well as the need to and barriers to mainstreaming services, and the key elements related to syringe exchange, Expanded Syringe Access Program, opioid overdose programming, and expanding access to buprenorphine.

Mr. Clear is the Director of the New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute’s Office of Drug User Health. Mr. Clear has worked in the field of drug user health since 1990. He was the Executive Director of the Lower East Side Harm Reduction Center, one of the first syringe exchange programs in New York State, and of the Harm Reduction Coalition, which is the prominent community-based organization promoting harm reduction as a mode of working with drug users in the US. Mr. Clear has served on both local and international advisory bodies, including Governor Cuomo’s End the Epidemic Task Force in 2015 and the United Nations Civil Society Taskforce on Drugs.

As part of the Mount Sinai Health System’s virtual campus, video conferencing will be offered with the Beth Israel Medical Center’s Department of Family Medicine and the Mount Sinai-affiliated Mid-Hudson Family Practice Residency in Kingston, NY.

The event will be held from 8-9am on Friday, December 8th in Mount Sinai’s Hatch Auditorium in the Guggenheim Pavilion (1468 Madison Avenue), 2nd Floor. A light breakfast will be served at 7:30am.

Grand Rounds are open to all and occur on the second Friday of every month.
