Healthy Families staff plant a pinwheel garden for Child Abuse Awareness Month

April 29, 2022

The staff from our Healthy Families programs in Dutchess County and Ulster County planted a virtual, crowd-sourced pinwheel garden to acknowledge Child Abuse Awareness Month, which occurs every year in April. Each staff member took a picture of a pinwheel somewhere in their homes and created a collage of all the photos, with the pinwheels representing a happy, healthy childhood for all children.

“The pinwheel garden is a way for us to come together, even online, to show our support for children, their families and their communities,” said Nora Engelhard, program manager for Healthy Families Dutchess County.

Healthy Families is a home visiting service that provides support to families in Dutchess County and Ulster County. They partner with families with young children by collaborating on:

  • Support around pregnancy, labor and delivery
  • Newborn and infant care
  • Child development screenings
  • Interactive play to encourage child development
  • Information for school readiness
  • Support in getting healthcare
  • Connection to other resources

If you are pregnant or have young children and would like to learn more about Healthy Families, call us at (845) 452-3387 (Dutchess County) or (845) 339-8551 (Ulster County).
