Flu (influenza) season is here! Getting your flu shot protects you and your loved ones from getting sick with the flu and flu-related illnesses.

Why should I get a flu shot?

  • It protects you from getting sick with the flu. It’s better to get the flu shot than the flu.
  • It keeps you from spreading flu to others, such as your loved ones or people at high-risk for complications from the flu.
  • Flu can be very serious. If you get very sick, you may need to go to the hospital.

Who should get a flu shot?

  • Everyone 6 months and older should get a flu shot!
  • It’s extra important that babies and young children, older people, people with chronic health conditions and pregnant people get a flu shot.

I heard the flu shot is dangerous. Is this true?

  • No, the flu shot is safe – and it works. The flu shot cannot give you the flu. The shot helps your body defend itself against the flu virus.
  • There are a lot of myths about the flu shot. They are based on rumors, not science. Ask your provider for the facts.
  • Hundreds of millions of Americans have safely received the flu shot over the past 50 years, and there has been extensive research supporting the safety of the flu shot.

Can I get my flu shot and the COVID-19 vaccine at the same time?

  • Yes, both vaccines are safe. You can get your flu shot and COVID-19 vaccine at the same time.
  • If you have concerns about taking the flu shot with other vaccines, talk to your provider. It’s more important than ever to stay up to date on your vaccines.

How do I get a flu shot?

If you have an appointment, ask for your flu shot at your visit.

If you don’t have an upcoming appointment, schedule an appointment for your health needs and make sure you get your flu shot when you come in. To schedule, use MyChart or call 844-IFH-APPT (844-434-2778).
