Farm Share kicks off a new season at Walton and Stevenson Family Health Centers

January 31, 2020

The Corbin Hill Farm Share started its 2020 winter season of offering affordable, high-quality fresh produce at a weekly pop-up at two Institute health centers: the Walton Family Health Center in Mount Hope and the Stevenson Family Health Center in Soundview. Last season, Institute patients and community members took home over 500 bags of Farm Share produce. Each bag contains five to seven different types of vegetables and one type of fruit.

“The quality of the food is the highlight of the program — and why people keep coming back,” said Mila Neyra, the Institute’s Community Health Project Manager.

The Farm Share, run by the New York City-based Corbin Hill Food Project, works with farms up and down the east coast to deliver fresh, seasonal produce directly to consumers. While most farm share programs require a commitment to an entire growing season in order to participate, this one allows you to sign up and pay on a week-to-week basis. The Farm Share accepts EBT/SNAP benefits as well as Health Bucks, a New York City initiative where nutrition counselors can offer their patients vouchers to purchase healthy food. In addition, the Institute’s Bronx Health REACH program provides a subsidy so that the produce is affordable for everyone.

The Corbin Hill Farm Share is available at Stevenson Family Health Center on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month, and at Walton Family Health Center on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month. In both locations, participants can pick up their shares between 3pm and 5:30 pm in the lobby of the health centers.

The Farm Share is open to all community members. Ready to join the Farm Share? You can sign up online or on-site at the health centers.
