An Exchange of Ideas and Camaraderie During Annual Resident Research Day

April 10, 2017

It’s a rare occasion when all three family medicine residency programs of the Institute for Family Health are in the same clinic, let alone the same room. Last week, residents and faculty from the Mount Sinai Downtown, Mount Sinai Harlem, and Mid-Hudson Family Medicine residencies did just that. They convened at the Family Health Center of Harlem for the annual Resident Research Day, a three hour workshop designed to stimulate scientific inquiry in residents by teaming them with faculty researchers at the Institute.

Through large group activities and small group breakout sessions, residents were led by faculty researchers to formulate research questions aimed at addressing germane health issues prevalent in primary care. The event was led by Institute researcher Dr. Eve Waltermaurer and supported by the Institute’s research office. Activities during the session included an inter-residency ice breaker, testimonials about scholarly pursuits from current and past Institute family medicine residents, debates in research ethics, faculty-led small groups, and words on research training from the Institute’s President and CEO, Dr. Neil Calman. Over 65 residents and faculty participated in the workshop.
