Policy & Advocacy
The Institute regularly collaborates with other health centers, policymakers, and community advocates to promote a just and equitable health care system for all. Our long history of providing health care in diverse New York communities informs these efforts. As one of the first Teaching Health Centers in the nation, we also have a unique perspective on workforce development strategies that promote equity.
Our current policy priorities include:
In collaboration with CHCANYS, we’re educating New York State legislators about the true cost of health center services and the urgent need to update Medicaid payment rates to sustain health centers in low income communities.
Telehealth services promote access to healthcare. We’re working to ensure that telehealth services are reimbursed fairly, so patients can continue to benefit from this form of access. Learn more.
In collaboration with NACHC, we’re educating legislators about the vital role that community health centers and related workforce development programs, such as Teaching Health Centers and the National Health Service Corps, play in promoting health equity in the United States.
We are grateful to the elected officials, organizational partners and community members who work to advance community health and the community health center model of care.
